Last weekend, with my camera bag packed, I headed off to the midlands to photograph my first event of 2018.   The Royal Air Force Ice Hockey Association’s annual Sportsman Weekend brings together members of the Association to recognise achievement over the past year.

This year’s event was hosted at RAF Cosford; getting off to a great start on the Friday evening with a RAF Aces v RAF Saints game at Telford Ice Arena.  The match finished, RAF Aces 9 RAF Saints 6.

Saturday morning the Association held its AGM, followed by a fun game of deck hockey in the RAF Cosford Gymnasium.

The weekend concluded with a formal dinner and presentations at the nearby Park House Hotel, Shifnal.  Guest speaker Olympian, Stu Benson entertained us with tales of ‘lucky eggs’, popped tendons, determination and ambition.

We also said farewell to our President, Air Vice Marshall (Retired) Martin Clarke and welcomed on board our new President, Air Vice Marshall Mike Quigley.

The Rhagor Trophy, which recognises the greatest contribution to the RAFIHA was awarded to James Tasker.  Shaun Duthie of the RAF Vulcans, was presented with the President’s Trophy for most improved player 2017.

The Bluewings’,  Adam Rosbottom, was awarded ‘Ace’ status as he was presented with the #2 RAF Aces jersey.
