Last weekend, I travelled to Telford to photograph my first event of the year for the Royal Air Force Ice Hockey Association. The Sportsman Weekend brings together members of the Association to recognise achievement over the past year.
The players descended upon Telford Ice Arena for the annual RAF Aces v RAF Saints fixture, this was followed by a mini deck hockey tournament at the RAF Cosford gym.
The weekend continued with the AGM, which was followed by a formal dinner and presentations at the Park House Hotel, Shifnal. The Association welcomed ice hockey referee Dave Cloutman, who has called games at every level in the UK. Dave shared stories from a long career, which has spanned 33 seasons.
Association President, Air Commodore Mark Hunt presented the awards. The Rhagor Trophy which recognises the greatest contribution to the RAFIHA was presented to Kyle Jones of the RAF Vulcans.
Pete Lye of the RAF Vulcans was presented with the President’s trophy for most improved player 2019.
The RAF Vulcans’ Lewis McCabe was awarded ‘Ace’ status as he was presented with the #16 RAF Aces jersey.
