Victory for the Vulcans as they take 2017 RAF Champions title

One of the great highlights of being the RAF Ice Hockey Association photographer is the annual RAF Championships which takes place in Dundee, at the end of summer each year.

RAF teams based across England and Scotland come together to compete for the highly coveted RAF Champions trophy.

So with my kit bag all packed and lots of layers to ward off the chill of the ice, I made the long trek from Norfolk to Dundee. Read More

2017 UK Armed Forces Ice Hockey Tournament

At the beginning of June, I travelled to Sheffield to photograph the annual UK Armed Forces Ice Hockey Tournament.  This was my fourth year as tournament photographer.  I am incredibly passionate about my ice hockey photography and I consider it a privilege to be a part of this prestigious military competition, which sees teams from the British Army, Royal Air Force and Royal Navy compete against each other to become Tri-Service Champions.  In addition, each evening, the Royal Navy Destroyers, RAF Aces and British Army Blades, battle it out for the Inter-Service Championship Cup.

So, what’s it like to be tournament photographer? – Four long, cold days rink side working hard, but worth every second to capture all the action and emotions; the agony of defeat and the ecstasy of triumph! Read More

Royal Air Force Ice Hockey Association – End of Year Review 2016

I am incredibly proud of my work with the RAFIHA and it is a privilege and pleasure to be the Association’s photographer. It has been another fantastic year for me documenting the journey of this great organisation and the people who belong to it. I have taken thousands of photographs throughout the last twelve months and I would like to share with you some of my favourite images from this year ~ Trish

2016 got off to a great start with the Sportsman weekend, where we enjoyed an Aces v Saints game at Ice Sheffield followed by a dinner and presentation evening at RAF Cranwell. With a forthcoming tour to Canada for the RAF Aces, we took the opportunity to do a little promo shoot, with the Aces getting a chance to show off their modelling skills.

The Vulcans and The Bluewings went head to head in the Anglo Cup Final in May; the Vulcans retaining their title as Anglo Cup Champions for another year.

June saw the annual Combined Services Tournament, the Bluewings made a blistering start to the competition in a bid to defend their title, but the British Army teams proved tough competition, as did the British Army Blades who felled the RAF Aces in the final of the Inter-Service Cup.

September, the teams headed north of the border for the RAF Championships. Determined not to let another trophy slip through their fingers, the Bluewings annihilated the Vulcans in the final to become the new RAF Champions.

UK Armed Forces Ice Hockey Tournament

At the beginning of June, I spent a week at Ice Sheffield photographing the annual UK Armed Forces Ice Hockey Tournament.  Four days packed with hockey, which saw teams from the British Army, Royal Air Force and Royal Navy compete in a round-robin competition for the Tri-Service Cup,  Plate and  Bowl.  Each evening, the Royal Navy Destroyers, RAF Aces and British Army Blades battled it out for the Inter-Service Championship Cup.  I am incredibly passionate about my ice hockey photography; this was my third year as tournament photographer, such an intensive (and cold!) week for me, but so much fun.

And so the stage was set…

The puck dropped on the 2016 Tournament with an 11-2 win for the Army Sappers.

Day One of the tournament saw some great hockey and ended with the reigning Tri-Service Champions, The RAF Bluewings, top of the leader board.

Victory for the RAF Aces, as they beat the Royal Navy Destroyers 9-2. Hat tricks from Guscott and  Hutchinson secured a place in the Inter-Service Cup Final against the British Army Blades.

Day two saw the Army teams step up a gear and the RAF Bluewings slipped from top spot

The Royal Navy Destroyers endure a punishing 14 – 1 defeat at the hands of the British Army Blades in the Inter-Service Championship Cup.

Day three of the tournament and the teams battled it out for placings in the finals of the Cup, Plate and Bowl.

The one everyone had been waiting for, the Inter-Service Cup Final between the RAF Aces and the British Army Blades.

As the RAFIHA photographer, it was a privilege to be invited into the RAF Aces locker room to document the preparations and anticipation ahead of the big game.

‘Not today…’
