When Creative Arts East commissioned me to photograph a silent Chinese film with musical accompaniment, I didn’t know what to expect – who knew such a project existed?!
I turned up at St Mary’s Church, Banham on a cold wintry evening for the performance of Written In Dust, by British Director, Gareth Rees. Set in Beijing, it is a contemporary tragic tale of three friends who migrate to the city in search of a new life, but encounter love, lies and betrayal. With a dark and gritty style of cinematography and the haunting musical accompaniment by Ling Peng and Andrew Middleton, the experience was captivating. The atmospheric glow inside the church enhanced the performance; rural cinema proved to be an unexpected treat.

What a year it has been for the Club – our adventures have taken us to Swindon, Sheffield and North of the Border to Dundee. We started 2015 as Eastern Crusade and finished the year as the newly named RAF Vulcans – RAF Champions 2015.
2014 and early 2015 saw us say goodbye to a number of players; 2015 would see new faces and the development of the squad.
A punishing defeat at the hands of local rivals, Dinamo, in March came hard. May saw a small team travel to Swindon for a 2 day rec tournament; our very own Russian Messiah, Vasiliy Zorin, picked up the trophy for ‘Best Forward of the Tournament’.
Into June, and the team were Sheffield bound for the Tri-Service Tournament – an excellent week of hockey, which was enjoyed by everyone and the lads exhibited a true sense of team spirit.
With spirits bolstered off the back of a great tournament, the committee worked hard behind the scenes on the re-branding of the club and everyone looked forward to the launch of the RAF Vulcans at RAF Champs in Dundee. The Club took 2 teams to Dundee and the final day saw underdogs, the Vulcans White, beat the Bluewings in a tense final to win the RAF Champs trophy.
It has been an amazing year, full of emotions, pride and team spirit and it has been my privilege and pleasure to document the Club’s exciting journey.

Anyone who knows me, will know that I am a massive Star Wars fan, so when this little one came for his newborn shoot, I asked my clients if they would humour me so I could get a ‘Star Wars shot’. Turns out Dad’s a bit of a Star Wars geek too; so out came the lightsabers, to say his face lit up like a 5 year old’s on Christmas day is an understatement!!

Where there is light, there must also be darkness; using Anakin Skywalker’s lightsaber, I created another image representing the dark side of the Force. It was a lot of fun creating something a little different.

I was thrilled to be asked to photograph the 2015 UK Winter Classic outdoor pond hockey tournament. This winter’s tournament took place in Great Yarmouth and saw teams from across the UK compete for the UK Winter Classic trophy. A thrilling final saw the Cambridge Hockey Tutorial Team take the trophy.
